I just want to move two barrowloads of manure up to my allotment, a matter of a hundred yards or so. I have no other use for a wheelbarrow during the year, and it seems silly spending £30 or so on a new one just for a few minutes use each autumn. David

Quite a few plotholders have been using woven black plastic landscape fabric to keep down weeds. If you use this, please ensure that the raw edges of this material are doubled under and held down by soil. Once the wind gets hold, the fabric flaps until it begins to unravel and yards and yards of plastic fibres are released. These are very dangerous to wildlife - easily entangling them and almost impossible to break - to say nothing of making a mess of the site.

My strawberry's this year have been a disaster yet I look at other plots and they have masses of big fat strawberry's - what is the secret ?
